QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK… OFTEN!
-
Cross-country skiing is a sport children can start at a young age. As early as 5 or 6 years old, children can begin to get familiar with skis through games and short walks on flat terrain. Then, they can gradually move on to learning proper technique, always in a fun way.
At Nordic Base, we offer biathlon for children ages 8 and up. At this age, children can combine cross-country skiing with an introduction to shooting using age-appropriate equipment, while following safety guidelines.
The goal in both cases: play first, learn second… and make people want to do it again.
-
No. Cross-country skiing can be very intense… or more contemplative. A session can be anything from a full-on cardio workout to a leisurely outing to explore the mountains using classic-style skiing. At Nordic Base, the class adapts to you—not the other way around. That’s also why it’s a great way to gradually get back into shape.

Skating or classic skiing: which should I choose?
It really depends on what you’re looking for. Classic skiing is more like gliding while walking: it’s fairly intuitive and perfect for a relaxed introduction to the sport. Skating is more dynamic, more athletic, and more technical. If you’re not sure, just let us know your skill level and what you’re looking for when you book—we’ll help you decide. -
No, all the cross-country ski trails are free, and the school is located on the Manchet cross-country ski trails, which are also accessible by a free shuttle.
-
Yes, we can provide the necessary equipment based on the activity you choose for 10€/day. This ensures you have the right equipment in the right sizes to make your experience more enjoyable.
For cross-country skiing, please let us know when you make your reservation so we can arrange your equipment. For biathlon, rifles and specialized equipment are provided for the session. -
Opt for multiple layers rather than one huge ski jacket. Cross-country skiing quickly raises your body temperature. Bring gloves, a hat or headband, sunglasses, warm socks, and something to drink. You can leave some items in the cabin so you can adjust your outfit as needed.
For a more leisurely snowshoe hike, dress a little warmer. -
Snow, cold weather, or a few snowflakes don’t usually stop us. In the mountains, the conditions are part of the experience. However, if the conditions make the session too uncomfortable, we’ll do our best to reschedule the class for a better time. If we have to cancel because the location is impassable or dangerous (and the class cannot be rescheduled), the class will be canceled and refunded.
-
Yes, we use pellet rifles that are suitable for beginners. Before you start, the instructor will explain how the rifle works, the safety rules, and the proper shooting stance.
Then it’s up to you to aim accurately.
